Golf promotion company, ClubEG, is announcing the launch of its newest competitive tournament, a three-round stroke-play event series under the Postmedia brand and officially titled the Ottawa Citizen City Championship.

The event is a partnership with Thunderbird Management Services Inc. (TMSI). TMSI will provide the host courses in the first year of the event that intends to mimic the Ottawa Sun Scramble in terms of size and scope over the coming years.

“It’s been a long-time coming,” said Andy Rajhathy, ClubEG’s Vice-President and PGA of Canada Apprentice Professional, who oversees all of the company’s events. “Ever since the Ottawa Citizen Amateur Championship folded a number of years ago, the need for a professionally-run city-wide championship has been dearly needed in Ottawa’s competitive golf scene.”

The championship is slated for June 16-18 this year at TMSI-managed courses, Perth Golf Links, Rockland Golf Club and eQuinelle Golf Club. There are seven divisions including a Professional Division, Open Division, B Division, Junior Open, Senior Open, Ladies Open and a Ladies B Division.

Long-time ClubEG member, Terry Benson, has been appointed to the position of Tournament Director.

“With such a busy schedule already, we needed a real leader to handle the operational details and to help grow the event into something as big as the Sun Scramble which now attracts 1,000 golfers every August,” said Rajhathy.

There are already more than 50 players registered across the seven divisions for the Ottawa Citizen City Championship.
