The Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs golf courses in Cape Breton, NS, keep crushing it as Canada’s No. 1 golf destination whenever course rankings come out.
And just recently the two jewels by the Gulf of St. Lawrence were recognized again in Golf Digest’s new World’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses list.
The two tracks went up against the top courses anywhere and locked up prime spots on the list. Cabot Cliffs landed the No. 9 slot and Cabot Links came in No. 43. Alberta native Rod Whitman designed Cabot Links while Bill Coore and PGA Tour legend Ben Crenshaw designed Cabot Cliffs. The courses were the vision of Ben Cowan-Dewar with the financial backing from Mike Keiser. Keiser is the creator of the Bandon Dunes collection of five links layouts located along the Pacific coast of southern Oregon.
Cabot Cliffs has previously been ranked 19th by Golf Digest and Cabot Links moved up 50 places from 93rd.
Management says: “It’s hard to express how proud we are of our team here in Cape Breton, and how grateful we are for everyone who has supported us over the years. To our guests, employees, and community members, thank you.
“We are greatly looking forward to the season to come and all of the memorable moments it will bring! If you haven’t already booked, we suggest you do as soon as possible to ensure you receive your preferred room type and dates. Cabot is set for another busy year and we can’t wait to welcome you in 2018.”
Cabot Resort will be open from May 11 to Oct. 28.
Cabot Links is set in a rugged, oceanfront landscape that runs firm and fast. It is Canada’s only authentic links. The hole spread out between the sea and the village of Inverness. Every hole offers an ocean view and five of the holes play directly adjacent to the beach. Cabot Links is a par 70 that plays 6,854 yards from the black tees, 6,455 yards from the greens, 6,020 yards from the silvers, 4,942 yards from the orange markers and 3,691 yards from the royal blues.
Cabot Cliffs runs from cliff to cliff and across rolling sand dunes. It features the same fescue turf mix as Cabot Links and some tee shots seem to roll forever, but so do wayward shots that miss greens. The cliff-edged par-3 16th is breathtaking. Cabot Cliffs is a par 72 that plays 6,764 yards from the black tee markers, 6,385 yards from the green, 6,090 yards from the silvers, 5,473 yards from the hybrid markers, 5,120 yards from the orange tee markers and 3,185 yards from the royal blues.
